Nature:
Nonylphenol is a colorless and transparent liquid with an aromatic odor.
Nonylphenol is soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, and chlorinated hydrocarbons, but not in water.
Nonylphenol has a high boiling point (approximately 300 ℃) and flash point (approximately 115 ℃).
Use:
Nonylphenol is mainly used as an industrial surfactant and is widely used in industries such as cleaning agents, hair care products, dyes, pigments, and inks.
Nonylphenol is also used as a surfactant, resin plasticizer, and defoamer for ion exchange resins.
Due to its excellent antioxidant properties, nonylphenol is also used in the rubber and plastic industries.
Preparation method:
There are several main methods for preparing nonylphenol:
Octane undergoes a hydrogenation reaction with hydrogen gas in the presence of a catalyst to produce nonane, which is then oxidized to obtain nonyl alcohol (nonyl alcohol), and finally dehydrated to produce nonyl phenol.
Octane and vinyl benzene undergo an epoxidation reaction in the presence of a catalyst to produce nonylphenol.
